The Osprey is one of the most fascinating birds in the world and we are fortunate to have them visit the shores of the Chesapeake Bay every spring to build their nests and raise their babies. The Osprey can also be called the fish hawk or fishing eagle. They weigh from 2 lbs 12 oz to 4 lbs 4 oz and the female is generally bigger than her mate. Their wingspread ranges from 54 - 72 inches. They can fly about 25 miles per hour and the oldest bird found was 32 years old! The bird's call is a whistled yew-yew-yewk or cheep-cheep-cheep. If an intruder nears the nest the Osprey angrily calls cheereek!
